LSA 2019: Here’s who we think will and should take the film awards home!

lsa 2019

LSA 2019 is right around the corner and amidst all the uproar out there on ‘controversial‘ nominations, it’s still the most coveted set of awards for the film industry and that’s what makes it an event worth waiting for.

This year, the nominees have it tough with some of the biggest names being pitted against each other. Be it for best film, best director or the best lead actors, these are heavyweights you just don’t get to see fighting for gold this easily, and that’s why we’re excited about it.

Who exactly will win and who do we think should win?

Diva Online reveals it here…

Best Film

LSA

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, Load Wedding, Cake, Motorcycle Girl, and Teefa in Trouble

2018 was clearly a year for successful films and the nominations prove it. There’s the cult-classic Cake, which is enough to make stone hearts melt with its melodrama, JPNA 2 with its comedy that left fans in stitches, Load Wedding with a social message of epic proportions, Motorcycle Girl that had us rooting for women empowerment, and Teefa in Trouble, which was all about the quintessential romantic-comedy Pakistanis love!

Who even can predict when they are all such titans? It’s going to be one big competition.

But what do we think?

Will Win: Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2

Should Win: Cake

Missing in Action: Parchi

Best Director

LSA

Ahsan Rahim, Nadeem Baig, Asim Abbasi, Nabeel Qureshi, and Haseeb Hassan

With big film names, come even bigger directors attached to them and we are all for it! These stalwarts proved themselves time and again, and naturally were the perfect choice for the nominations. There’s Ahsan Rahim, whose Teefa really took him out of trouble and gave him glory, Asim Abbasi, who proved he can have his Cake and eat it too, Haseeb Hassan, who soared high with Parwaaz Hai Junoon, Nabeel Qureshi, who took the Load away from wedding dowries, and Nadeem Baig, who proved Humayun Saeed is still Jawan – inside and out.

Who will prove their talent was better than the rest?

Will Win: Asim Abbasi

Should Win: Nabeel Qureshi

Missing in Action: Adnan Sarwar

Best Actor

LSA

Ahmed Ali Butt, Ali Zafar, Adnan Malik, Fahad Mustafa, and Mohammad Ahmed

This coveted LSA 2019 category is truly a mixed bag this year, with names that often were put in supporting categories making it to the big boy league. There’s Adnan Malik, whose role as the subtle yet powerful Romeo in Cake bagged him his first nomination in this category, Ahmed Ali Butt for JPNA 2, where he surprisingly surpassed both the male leads of the film for the nomination, Ali Zafar for Teefa where he was the bad guy with a heart of gold, Fahad Mustafa for Load Wedding where he plays a Punjabi local lover from a hamlet oh-so-perfectly, and veteran Mohammad Ahmed for Cake, who’s yet another surprise as he is more of a character actor.

Who wins it from this confusing category?

Will Win and Should Win: Fahad Mustafa

Missing in Action: Hamza Ali Abbasi and Ahad Raza Mir for Parwaaz Hai Junoon

Best Actress

Aamina Sheikh, Hajra Yamin, Mehwish Hayat, Sanam Saeed, and Sohai Ali Abro

Like its male counterpart, the LSA Best Actress category too remains full of surprises. Clearly gone are the days where Mahira Khan would make the nominations – and it’s really a surprise to see that. In the list we have, Aamina Sheikh, who made it for Cake along with her sister-act, Sanam Saeed, there’s Hajra Yamin whose debut stint in Pinky Memsaab blew over critics, there’s Mehwish Hayat for Load Wedding where her role as Meerab was powerful in every way, and Sohai Ali Abro, who really proved that this Motorcycle Girl is not just an amazing actress, but also a great motivation too.

So, who wins?

Will Win: Mehwish Hayat

Should Win: Sohai Ali Abro

Missing in Action: Mahira Khan for 7 Din Mohabbat In, Maya Ali for Teefa, and Hania Aamir for PHJ

Best Playback Singer

Arif Lohar (Tilay Wali Jooti), The Sketches (Meri Duniya), Atif Aslam (Tham Lo), Shuja Haider (Donkey Raja), and Mulazim Hussain (Rangeya)

The films in 2018 surely had OST and scoring that was commendable in many ways. There was a healthy mix of traditional and contemporary and that’s why this category at LSA 2019 has a kaleidoscopic list of nominations.

There’s Arif Lohar, who made Tilay Wali Jooti a thumping number for JPNA 2, Atif Aslam who made Tham Lo hummable in PHJ, Mulazim Hussain who made Rangeya sound so beautiful in Load Wedding, Shuja Haider, whose Donkey Raja was something every child was singing, and The Sketches, who breathed like into Meri Duniya for Cake – but have taken their nomination out in protest.

It’s a category given less importance, but it definitely has the biggest powerhouses of talent this year.

So, who will win?

Will Win: Arif Lohar

Should Win: Atif Aslam

Missing in Action: Nabeel Shaukat Ali for Kooch Na Karin in Load Wedding, Ali Zafar for Sajna in Teefa, and Sahara for Billo Hai in Parchi.
