The 2000s came about as breath of fresh air for the world, and as we entered the new millennia in Pakistan, it came with a plethora of changes for the country and its media. We saw new mediums of communication finally opening up, and for the first time, we saw music coming into the mainstream through television and the internet!
From the days of Atif Aslam and Ali Zafar to the rise of bands like Noori, 2000s was the decade of new genres and new platforms and that’s why it could never be forgotten.

Duur – Strings
Strings defined the year 2000 with their song, Duur and for the many years to come, it remained a fan fav!
Dosti – Jawad Ahmed
A tumultuous 2001 came about throughout the world and in Pakistan, it was quite similar. However, Jawad Ahmed kept our morale high with a song like Dosti.
Ankhon Ke Saagar – Fuzon
A song that became a sleeper hit around the Subcontinent, Fuzon’s Ankhon Ke Saagar defined 2002 in the perfect way!
Channo – Ali Zafar
Ali Zafar was the breakthrough sensation that 2003 bestowed upon us, and in every way, his song Channo defined his future career, which was going to be super-duper successful!
Jal Pari – Atif Aslam
Coming into his own with a solo career in 2004, Atif Aslam won countless fans around the globe with his album and song of the same name, Jal Pari. There was no looking back after this!
Meray Log – Noori
Noori was the breakthrough sensation of the late 1990s and early 2000s and it was Noori’s second album, Peeli Patti Aur Raja Jani Ki Gol Dunya, which made them become even popular! The song Meray Log from the album is still one of the most popular.
Mahia – Annie Khalid
2006 was the year when Pakistan finally got its own version of the shortlived MTV Channel, and it was also a great year for singles. One such example was the surprise hit, Mahia by Annie Khalid!
Bandeya – Khuda Kay Liye
2007 was the year of the revival of the Pakistani film industry, and the new wave of cinema brought forward songs like Bandeya to the forefront.
Garaj Baras – Ali Azmat and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
2008 became the year when music platforms changed in Pakistan with the debut of Coke Studio and there was never looking back from it. It featured huge names of the industry, and Garaj Baras was a major example.
Yar Daddi – Ali Zafar
The Coke Studio era continued into the last year of the 2000s and in 2009, songs like Yar Daddi from the ever-popular show became the year’s biggest sensation.
