As Ramadan nears its end for this year and Eid-ul-Fitr draws near, it ushers in the season for Pakistani films that find the auspicious holidays as the perfect time for their release! This Eid too, while a number of films are all set to premiere, there’s one that has stood out out from the crowd for its grittiness – the highly anticipated thriller, Daadal.
Produced under the Laaj Productions banner, the film starring some of Pakistan’s most enthralling actors such as Sonya Hussyn, Mohsin Abbas Haider, and Shamoon Abbasi was enough to leave the audiences asking for more.

The Gritty Story
Telling the story through the eyes of a female boxer from Lyari who takes up the role of a contract killer in order to avenge the honour of her sister, the film promises to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats!
The film is set against the gritty backdrop of Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood, known for its history of gang wars and violence. Daadal promises to be a hard-hitting, no-holds-barred look at the realities of life in one of Pakistan’s toughest neighbourhoods.

Boasting a plethora of actors in the film trailer, Daadal shows a range of stars in completely new avatars! Sonya Hussyn – who plays the lead role of the film, ensures the audience remain gripped with her captivating character. She comes off as a cutthroat boxer, whose smoking gun keeps everyone at bay – quite literally! Known for her versatility as an actress, we are sure she will bring a nuanced and powerful performance to her role. The Dark Experience
To capture the essence of Lyari and its gritty realities, Daadal showcases an authentic portrayal of life that is both intense and immersive. The cinematography in Daadal is truly stunning, with a particular emphasis on the use of light and shadow, which perfectly interplay with the film’s visuals that are heavily influenced by the film noir genre – with a dark and brooding atmosphere all around. Full props to Asrad Khan and Unita Bawani for that!
The cinematography also does an excellent job of capturing the chaos and vibrancy of life in Lyari. The narrow streets, the bustling markets, and the crowded homes all feel incredibly alive and vibrant on-screen. The camera work is kinetic and fast-paced, adding to the sense of urgency and danger that permeates the film.
The Pumped Up Music
The music of Daadal is a major element that adds to the film’s gripping and gritty vibe. The film’s soundtrack has been headlined by the talented Pakistani rapper Eva B, who hails from Lyari herself. Eva B is known for her unique style of rap that blends Urdu and Baloch lyrics with a hard-hitting beat.
The film’s music also features the contributions of other talented musicians, including Jabbar Abbas and Hashim Ishaq. Together they perfectly match the film’s gritty and captivating vibe. The music is hard-hitting and intense, with a sense of urgency that perfectly matches the film’s storyline!
